To provide bursaries for students from low-income households

what are we fundraising for?

As you know, the 1977 year group has been fundraising for bursaries from students from the lowest income backgrounds in the run up to the Year Dinner on Friday 8 September.

This is a collective effort and we’d like as many people as possible to join in by giving whatever amount they can. Currently, the percentage of alumni from 1977 giving to Pembroke is 40%, which is wonderful, but we’d love to hit 50%!

If you already give a regular gift to Pembroke, you already count towards this participation goal but, if you would like to, you can still help to create The 1977 Bursary by making an additional gift to this project.

why is this important?

Tuition and living expenses for students at Pembroke now amount to roughly £16,000 a year (£9,000 for tuition fees and £7,000 for living expenses). A student on a 3 year course can therefore graduate with nearly £50,000 of debt. For students from the very lowest income backgrounds, this is off-putting and a big worry throughout their time here. Offering substantial and attractive student support packages is therefore important in order to ensure that the best and brightest students apply to Pembroke and that they are able to benefit from a Pembroke education without financial concerns.
